Frequently Asked Questions
Do recipients need a PDFSub account?
No. Anyone with the link can view the document - no login required. The link itself is the credential, so only people you give it to can open the file.
Is the share link guessable?
No. Each link uses a cryptographically random token long enough that brute-forcing is computationally infeasible. We never expose your file's stored ID in the URL.
What happens when a link expires?
Expired and revoked links return an HTTP 410 Gone response with a friendly 'this link is no longer available' page. The underlying file in your storage is untouched.
Can I revoke a link after I've shared it?
Yes. From your dashboard, find the active share and click Revoke. The next request to that link is rejected immediately, even if recipients have it copied somewhere.
Will I see who viewed the document?
You see the total view count, the timestamp of the last view, and how recently it was opened. We don't expose recipient identity unless you sent the link through a channel that already identifies them - we don't fingerprint or de-anonymize visitors.
Can I share a signed PDF for the other party to counter-sign?
Yes. After you e-sign a contract in PDFSub, save the signed PDF to your storage and create a share link. The other party views and downloads, signs in their own tool, and sends back - all without an email attachment.
Does the file leave my PDFSub Cloud Storage?
No. The share link points to your stored file; deleting the file deletes any active shares for it (cascade). The link is just a permission to read - the bytes always live in your storage account.
Is sharing available on every plan?
Sharing is available on any plan that includes PDFSub Cloud Storage. Individual or Small Team includes 5 GB; Professional Team includes 20 GB; Enterprise Team includes 50 GB. The 7-day free trial includes sharing.
Can I limit how many times the link can be viewed?
Today, expiry is time-based rather than view-count-based. If you need a single-use link, share with a 1-hour expiry and revoke as soon as the recipient confirms receipt.
